Young Nkomazi woman showcases her creativity through poetry

Nonduduzo Mathonsi said she fell in love with poetry at a young age.

With her poems broadcasted mostly on community radio stations, Nonduduzo Mathonsi is making a living from her passion. Mostly known as Nduh the Poetess, the young and avid woman started her journey when she was nine.

“I had lost my lovely friend, so I wrote a poem to pay tribute to her. I recited it at the memorial service and it made me feel so alive and free. That is when I realised that poetry lives in me,” Mathonsi said.

She said she continued to write and recite poems from other poets from that early age, and has grown to create her own portfolio of poems in Siswati. Most of her works are influenced by her surroundings and what she can imagine.

Mathonsi has received the privilege for airplay on radio stations such as Nkomazi FM, Ligwalagwala FM, Lokuhle FM, K Radio, Ekasi Radio and KaMhlushwa Radio.

“Getting airplay has opened so many doors for me. People are booking me for their events, and this has motivated me to never give up on my passion. I have been able to start working on a special project, which is an album consisting of 20 poems. The album will be titled Tibekele Nalisibekele Titok’singasta,” she said.

“The album will be released some time in December, and I cannot wait for it. The poems will carry deep messages influenced by my surroundings in my community, Masibekela. I am working hard on this, and for it to be available on digital platform.”
