Police recover vehicles hijacked in Bushbuckridge

The vehicles were found in both cases, and no arrests have been made as yet.

The Mpumalanga SAPS has managed to recover at least two vehicles that had been hijacked and stolen within the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.

The collaboration with other law enforcement agencies has helped in the recovery of a hijacked VW Golf Velocity, which was stolen during a robbery in Shatale outside Dwarsloop on September 15.

According to information from the police, the victim visited his brother in the area and was targeted by three armed suspects as he arrived at the gate.

“It is further said he was forced into the back seat of his vehicle and they drove off with him. He was dropped off in the bushes around Agincourt near Thulamahashe. The suspects also took his phone. The victim managed to walk towards the road where he was assisted with a mobile phone by security guards. He managed to call the police, who immediately responded,” said a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli.

Mdhluli said the police managed to recover the hijacked vehicle in Phola, Masoyi.

In a separate incident, a silver Toyota Corolla was also recovered on Thursday in KaBokweni. Mdhluli indicated that the vehicle was stolen by two armed suspects during a house robbery in Bushbuckridge on Wednesday.

“The suspects reportedly stormed into a house where they held a man, his wife and their two-year-old daughter hostage and robbed them of their belongings, including a plasma TV, cellphones and the vehicle. One of the suspects reportedly tried to rape the woman, but his accomplice stopped him. It is said that suspects took the items and got away with the couple’s vehicle,” the spokesperson said.
