Bushbuckridge’s talk show host to tackle ‘unfiltered’ topics

Nomvula Chawane urged the public to subscribe to her channel on YouTube.

Unfiltered Talk With Nomvula, a show hosted by Nomvula Chawane that discusses thought-provoking, uncomfortable, difficult, messy topics about everyday life, premiered on YouTube on Thursday September 15.

This channel with the same title tackles issues faced on a daily basis that people shy away from, yet want to learn more about.

The first episode is titled “Amazing madness – My sister carried my baby and made me the happiest dada”. It aired at 17:00, and Chawane said she received great reviews from those who watched it.

She said the aim of the show is to provide answers and to help provide a platform that will have guests that give informative answers.

She is a communicator, a freelance journalist and content creator, with journalism qualifications from the Tshwane University of Technology.

Her passions include giving a voice to the voiceless and telling impactful stories.

Her storytelling journey started at Lowveld Media, and according to her, this is where it was sharpened by the best in the field.

Chawane said her deep desire to allow free and unprejudiced engagements around religion, sexuality, marriage, relationships and other issues pertaining to everyday life, which is what gave birth to the idea to start a show.

“I do not believe in subscribing to popular narratives, and I have a strong belief that some beliefs and doctrines need to be questioned and challenged without fear. I am a mother of four, and they push me daily to get out of my comfort zone and chase after my dreams, regardless of my age. I am a wife to a pastor, but I am no pastor at all,” she said.

Chawane is currently reading Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis and said she learnt a lot, which changed her perspective about many things. “At the age of 44, I am finding me, and this is quite an amazing journey. I can finally call myself a go-getter with a full knowledge of self. This show will help me reach out to others and be able to give them the support they need to self-discover.”

The show will not be confined to a studio; it will be in various areas depending on the issues that will be discussed that day.

“The plan is not to feature famous people; it will be ordinary people talking about ordinary things. We will have at least two guests. We are going to get people talking, questioning certain beliefs and doctrines and confronting societal norms. This podcast was created with the goal of providing a platform where free and unrestricted subjects, thoughts and ideas can be discussed without fear of prosecution, judgement or awkwardness. The topics and focus of episodes and flow are just like the perpetually unsettled waters that are this life we live.”

Chawane urged the public to subscribe to her channel to be part of this venture.
