City of Mbombela to embark on a walk for climate change

The inaugural event on Friday is in commemoration of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

The City of Mbombela will be hosting the inaugural climate change awareness walk on Saturday September 17. The walk will be in commemoration of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, which will be observed on Friday.

The initiative was found in 2018 by the municipality to raise awareness of climate-related disaster risks and to encourage the public to mitigate or adapt to the impacts thereof.

The walk will start at 06:00 at the Mbombela Stadium heading to the R37 towards Mashishing and back.

Patrons are urged to bring along used cans and plastic bottles for recycling and will get a novelty prize from Coca-Cola.

There are activities lined up for the day such as tree planting at the stadium’s commemoration site, and all participants will take home a spekboom tree to plant, to observe September as being Arbor Month.
