The Citizens bully The Rockets on home ground in Mbombela

The Rockets suffered their first defeat at home and conceded their first goal in the campaign.

The Rockets’ unbeaten run was halted on Saturday night, September 3, at Mbombela Stadium by Cape Town City through Khanyisa Mayo’s lone 15th-minute goal, which sealed the encounter.

They suffered their first defeat of the campaign at home, by not only losing the game, but by also dropping points and conceding their first goal in six matches.

Melusi Buthelezi’s clean-sheet record was tarnished. A win for them could have seen them topping the table. Currently they have dropped to sixth place on the log with nine points.

The Rockets have been among the better teams this season after barely avoiding relegation on the final day of the previous season, beating Chippa United with a lone goal.

They had a five-game unbeaten streak to open the season, with wins over Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, while drawing the other three contests, but unfortunately failing to hold the Citizens’ charges on their sixth game of the season.
The Rockets were the better team of the encounter as they dominated possession and registered 12 shots with four on target, while the Citizens registered nine with only three on target.

Reacting to his side’s first loss of the season, Galaxy’s head coach, Sead Ramović, said his team need to improve their performance.
“The lads went to the game with no hunger to win. They should learn to control their emotions, because when you control your emotions, you certainly can control the outcome.

“Everything went wrong, and I think we need to go back to the drawing board and to restructure. I think the boys came into the game with no energy, but they improved in the second half, but unfortunately the Cape Town guys had already planned on defending and holding on to their lead.

“The game was fair and good, not so much physical and aggressive. I guess we have to improve everything, from the mood, the energy, the passing and the defending. We have to do better in our next encounter and aim on winning games as every point is very crucial.”

TS Galaxy will travel to Soweto on Saturday September 10 to take on the Orlando Pirates.
