Msogwaba beauty pageant gives back to schoolchildren

Miss Pienaar prides itself in giving back to the community it serves.

The Miss Pienaar beauty pageant, based in Msogwaba, is an organisation that puts the interests of its community at heart and strives to foster young girls.

Working towards the goals of the organisation, together with the current reigning Miss Pienaar 2021, Gugulethu Sithole and community stakeholders, it embarked on a girl talk and pad drive programme.

Founder and director of Miss Pienaar, Zoliswa Mlombo, said that the programme aims to educate teenage girls on how to carry themselves.

“Over the years the programme has empowered over 800 girls and over 300 girls will benefit from it this year. Globally, girl children are deprived of quality education as they have to miss classes whenever they menstruate. The Miss Pienaar girl talk and pad drive programme contributes towards ending menstruation poverty,” Mlombo said.

The girls at Duma Primary School are some of the beneficiaries of the programme this year. The visit to the school took place on Friday August 12.

“The agenda of the programme tackled some of the most pressing issues, including substance abuse, cyberbullying, teenage pregnancy, sexual transmitted diseases and infections, and gender-based violence,” she said.
