MP Sports Awards nominations extended

Initially, nominations were supposed to be closed by August 12, to allow the panel of judges to go through each and every entry received.

Following much public demand, the 2022 Mpumalanga Sports Awards nomination process has been extended to August 19. Initially, nominations were supposed to be closed by August 12, to allow the panel of judges to go through each and every entry received.

Every year, the organisers of these prestigious awards receive thousands of entries from athletes and sporting organisations throughout the province.

To allow and afford everyone an opportunity to be part of these awards, organisers listened to the public who have been calling for more time.
Nominations can be done on www.mpsawards.co.za or via email at info@mpsawards.co.za.

During this period, federations are requested to submit names of players and teams who have excelled in the field of play from September 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022, and those who represented Mpumalanga with honour, dignity and excellence on big stages.
“We want to remain as transparent as ever and afford equal opportunities to all those who want to be part of the awards. This is the reason why we decided to extend the nominations,” said the organisers.

The Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation’s spokesperson, Sibongile Nkosi, said the Mpumalanga Sports Awards celebrate local individuals and teams who have done well in the world of sport.

“The Mpumalanga Sports Awards are aimed at honouring and celebrating local individuals and teams who put the province on the sporting map in 21 categories, with two of them conferred by the culture, sport and recreation MEC, Thandi Shongwe,” said Nkosi.

Categories that will be voted for by the public are sport star of the year, sport journalist of the year, sport photographer of the year and sport fan of the year, and the rest will be chosen by a panel of independent individuals from Mpumalanga sporting federations. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on September 18.
