eMalahleni students celebrate Women’s Day in fun cross-dressing march

The march was a platform to teach people all matters GBV, and to make a stance against it.

This year, Tshwane University of Technology students in eMalahleni commemorated Women’s Day in a unique way.
They embarked on cross-dressing fun march on August 9 at the Corridor Hill student residence.

The male students were dressed up as females and vice versa.

The march also aimed to raise awareness against the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV), to teach people how it occurs, and how victims can get help.

According to Siyabonga Sibeko, first prince in Mr eMalahleni and a student who is fiercely opposed to GBV, they dressed up as women to demonstrate their solidarity and unity.
He said they are also attempting to get the victims to come forward so that the perpetrators can be brought to book.

“We males dressed as girls and came here to express our love and appreciation for women. In order to show women that we support them, we must put ourselves in their position and experience what it is like to be a woman wearing a dress,” said Sibeko.

“Due to the fact that this pandemic affects us all, we are also addressing all residents here, regardless of gender. In order for victims to receive all the assistance they require, we are asking them them to come forward. We want everyone to report any wrongdoing they come across. I’m urging all men to look out for and protect our mothers and sisters,” concluded Sibeko.
