Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency hosts public meetings for Annual Performance Plan

These meetings come at a time which this agency intends to adjust its tariffs.

The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (Iucma) is set to submit the first draft of its Annual Performance Plan for 2023/24 to the minister of water and sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, by no later than August 31.

It should include the determination of the water resource management charges in respect of abstraction-related water uses within its water management area for the 2023/24 financial year, starting on April 1, 2023.

This determination is done in terms of Section 57(1) and (2) of the National Water Act 36 of 1998 read with paragraph 6.3 of the Pricing Strategy for Raw Water Use Charges published under Government notice No. 201 of March 16, 2007, in the Government Gazette No. 29697.

The minister of water and sanitation may determine water use charges in terms of Section 57(1) and (3) of the National Water Act read with Items 7 and 8 of the Pricing Strategy for Raw Water Use Charges for funding of water resource development and use of water works as well as for achieving the equitable and efficient allocation of water.

For consultation with all persons and institutions that may have an interest in the draft Annual Performance Plan for 2023/24 of Iucma and the determination of the above-mentioned water use charges, the agency has arranged a number of community meetings.

At these meetings, the mentioned draft Annual Performance Plan, which includes the 2023/24 draft budget, partly financed by the water use charges determined by Iucma, will be submitted. Presentations will also be made on the establishment of Iucma, and its powers and functions.

The Department of Water and Sanitation will give background to justify the water use charges determined by the minister for funding of water resource development and use of water works as well as for achieving the equitable and efficient allocation of water.

This community participation is convened by Iucma as contemplated in Section 80(e) of the National Water Act 36 of 1998. Persons and or institutions having an interest in the water use charges who confirm their availability will receive the documents through email and at the venue on the day of the consultation meeting.
