Rockfall blocks one lane on Sabie to Lydenburg road (R532)

Heavy downpours in the Lowveld and Panorama areas have caused road damage this past week.

The Thaba Chweu Traffic Department has urged road users to drive with caution. Several roads in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality area and the Ehlanzeni District Municipality are under construction or have collapsed.

There was a rockfall about 14km from Sabie towards Lydenburg on Friday February 17. One lane has been blocked by the mud and loose boulders.

The R40 between the Kiepersol and Da Gama dams is monitored by a stop-and-go system, and the Bulembu Road is currently also closed. It collapsed earlier this week after flooding across the Lowveld.

The Department of Public Works issued a warning earlier this week that the Badfontein Road (R36) between Bambi and Lydenburg should be avoided. Heavy vehicles and buses are stuck in deep mud. Road users can expect a delay of two to three hours.
