Decomposing body found in river in Tonga

The man had been in the river for some time, as many of his identifying features on his face have been marred.

Community members of KaMaqhekeza, Tonga, outside Komatipoort, discovered the body of a man floating in a stream near a bridge on the R571 on Friday January 6. The R571 runs between the Mananga Port of Entry (to eSwatini) and Komatipoort.

According to a statement by a provincial police spokesperson, the police were notified. The semi-decomposed body was found to be a middle-aged man’s.

He said it is suspected that the body had been in the stream for some time, as his face was unrecognisable. His body was still intact, however.

The cause of death has yet to be established, pending the postmortem results.
