Foreign nationals busted for allegedly dealing in drugs in Standerton

Drugs and being in possession of a stolen vehicle recently landed two foreign nationals in hot water.

The Standerton SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit recently verified some information linking two foreign nationals believed to be behind the major suppliers of drugs in Standerton and Volkrust.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a breakthrough was achieved when an operation conducted by Standerton Crime Intelligence and Ermelo K9 saw an undocumented Nigerian national (40) driving a Nissan NP200 with large quantities of narcotics in Standerton on Thursday January 5 being nabbed.

“The drugs include 102 mandrax tables (149gr), one unpacked bag of crystal meth (17gr), one unpacked bag of methcathinone (11gr), one bag of crushed mandrax (14gr) and one unpacked bag of nyaope (11gr),” he said.

Mohlala said a Toyota Etios was recovered at the suspect’s residence.

“The suspect, who is also known as a motor mechanic, was visited at his residence in Meyerville, Standerton, where the police further recovered a stripped blue Toyota Etios, which on investigation was found to be reported stolen at Wierdabrug in 2020.

“The Etios’s recovery follows the recent recovery of another white Toyota Etios, which had been reported stolen in Centurion, Pretoria, five years ago, which was also recovered in Meyerville this week,” he said.

The total value of the recovered drugs and vehicle is estimated at R185 000.

The team proceeded to Volksrust, where an undocumented 43-year-old Nigerian national was busted with nine pieces of unpacked cat (372gr) to the estimated street value of R18 000.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 9 for dealing in drugs and the possession of a stolen vehicle.
