How to make chakalaka with a twist from scratch
Chakalaka is a well-loved South African vegetable relish. It's usually spicy and can served with bread, pap, samp, rice, dumplings, stews and curries. Some say it is a necessary condiment during a braai, a family gathering, or festive lunches or dinners.

The recipes can differ from one person to another, according to preference.
Noxolo Lubisi of Fresh Food with Noxy shared the secret recipe for her delicious chakalaka with a twist. She said the vegetable stock and mixed herbs are what create a unique taste.
Ingredients:
• Six large grated carrots
• One chopped onion
• Sliced robot peppers
• A finely chopped garlic clove
• Curry powder
• One tin of beans
• One tin of spicy chakalaka
• Paprika • Mixed herbs
• One vegetable stock cube
• Oil for frying.
Method:
• Heat the oil in a large pan
• Add chopped onion, garlic, vegetable stock and fry it until the onion is soft.
• Add curry powder, paprika, mixed herbs and stir well.
• Add grated carrots and robot peppers. Keep stirring, but be careful not to overcook it.
• Add the beans and drain the mixture.
• Add the chakalaka.
• Continue stirring until all the ingredients are mixed well and serve with your chosen meal.
