Tsabedze Foundation feeds hundreds of destitute families in Mpumalanga

Business mogul, Senzo Tsabedze, and his family foundation have been involved in a number of social investment initiatives for years.

Poverty, high unemployment rate and teenage pregnancies are the order of the day for the Engonini and Mboyi Sawulo communities, but one man is making all the difference.

Even though these villages are situated within one of the richest districts in Mpumalanga Province, the Gert Sibande district, the sad reality is that there are still a number of communities such as Engonini which live under extreme poverty.

Raising his hand to make a change is business mogul, Senzo Tsabedze, who through his family foundation, named Tsabedze Foundation, continues to bring smiles and social relief to a number of destitute families around these areas.

Through this foundation, which receives donations from Afrirent Holdings, a company owned by Tsabedze and his wife Thenjiwe, over 300 families drawn from the above mentioned villages, will get to enjoy this festive season, especially on Christmas Day, following the donation of food parcels to each family.

The foundation bought and donated food parcels worth over R400 000, which saw each family receiving food worth R3 500 each.

Tsabedze, who comes from humble beginnings, grew up in Engonini and was raised by this community, which he says it is much closer to his heart.

“I was raised by this community. When I was still little and there was no food at home, I never went to bed hungry, because my neighbours would share whatever they had. I grew up in an era where any child was indeed a community’s child. So, this is what makes this community closer to my heart. And I would never celebrate and eat fancy food during these holidays while my community and my people are dying with hunger,” said Tsabedze, as he distributed the food parcels to needy families on Wednesday, December 21.

78-year-old Gogo Sithebe, who lives with her four daughters and six grandchildren, said she was lost for words after receiving the food.

She said before this gesture by the Tsabedze Foundation, they were facing a black Christmas.

“I can never thank this boy (Tsabedze), enough for always remembering us, especially during this time of the year. He is such a blessing to all of us in this community. I see there’s flour in the groceries he gave us, and I am going to bake some cakes for my grandchildren,” beamed Gogo Sithebe.

Besides donating food parcels, Tsabedze’s family foundation is also involved in a number of social investment initiatives, such as taking local children to universities to further their studies, and creating employment opportunities for young people.
