Lydenburg places you can visit this Tourism Month

Lydenburg is one of the jewels of Mpumalanga’s tourism industry, and its scenery is breathtaking.

Tourism Month is celebrated annually in September and provides a heightened month-long focus on the importance of the sector to the South African economy.

Inspired by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, World Tourism Day celebrations on September 27 in Tourism Month provides a platform for the South African sector to celebrate, reflect and commemorate its milestones in relation to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Here are some of the places that you can visit:

• Long Tom Pass

The Long Tom Pass is a mountain located on the great escarpment on the R37 regional route between Lydenburg and Sabie in Mpumalanga.

• Lydenrust Horse & Hiking Trails

Horseback trail rides through magnificent countryside are available on reliable, well-trained horses. A highly experienced guide will lead you on a half-day or overnight hike.

• Long Tom Cannon


In the second Boer War, the 155mm Creusot Long Tom was a French siege gun manufactured by Schneider et cie in Le Creusot, France, as field guns.

• Lydenburg Museum


The museum focuses on the cultural, historical, archaeological and ethnographic (Pedi) history of the area, and is best known for its replicas of the Lydenburg Heads.
