Mpumalanga doctor’s show is now on Soweto TV

Dr Prudence Buthelezi is on a mission to make a difference in the community that supports her and to educate the nation.

Last year when Dr Prudence Buthelezi, a health practitioner and co-founder of the National Health Care Professionals Association, started a health talk show on YouTube, she did not know it would soon be viewed on Soweto TV on DStv.

Her aim is to connect with the public through their indigenous languages, and it appears that her show is reaching greater heights.

Affectionately known as Dr Pru, she hosts the Ezempilo/Dza mutakalo Talk Show.

She said she started the channel after she realised that most black people are diagnosed with various medical conditions, but do not understand exactly what is happening due to the language barriers. She decided to close the gap by getting speakers who will explain things in a language they understand.
“From the beginning of my health talk show, my dream was to be on TV as I am inspired and want to follow in the same tracks of Dr Phil or Dr Oz.”

She said she was happy when she received an email from Soweto TV.
“I received it in June, requesting that I submit my talk show as they wanted to air it on July 7. I was over the moon when we submitted our work that we had done on YouTube with my new production team, Jerome Moremi.”

She said her TV debut has changed her life. “Since I have started the show on DStv, it is so easy for me to get colleagues in the health sector to be my guests, unlike before. I now get sponsors from my guests and from one of the biggest private hospitals in Mpumalanga, Kiaat Private Hospital. The hospital has given me amazing support, providing guests for me and financial support, as running such shows cost a lot of money.
“I am now able to reach most people at home, those who know me and those who do not, in all provinces. It has made me keep trust in God, knowing that that His timing is perfect, and made me resilient.”
Buthelezi said one of her dreams is to be able to share theatre experiences for the public to see.

“I look forward to being able to go inside the theatre with doctors doing various procedures, so the public can see what it is like inside and so that they can relax if they have a procedure due.”
She said she believes that Soweto TV will open more doors for her and that she will hopefully end up on Showmax and Netflix.
