Emoyeni Mall eases grant collection for pensioners with breakfast drive

The mall's management started the breakfast drive in 2020, feeding pensioners as they collect their grant money.

The collection of pension and social grant money from the supermarkets at Emoyeni Mall has been made easier for pensioners and people who live with disabilities, through a breakfast drive.

This is led by Emoyeni Mall’s marketing manager, Nomfundo Zitha, at the mall every month. Grant receivers are able to have breakfast when they go to the mall on collection days.

“This winter we have fresh scones or sandwiches served with a warm cup of coffee. We serve the breakfast for free on two days to accommodate pensioners and those who live with disabilities,” Zitha said.

“We noticed that they get to the mall very early before the supermarkets open. By that time, they are already exhausted and weak, as many have health issues.

“The breakfast drive has been running successfully since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Fruit packs with a bottle of water are provided during the warmer seasons, and the mall has introduced snack packs for children while their guardians queue for their social grants since the beginning of the current school holidays. We thought to do something nice for the little kids who accompany their parents to withdraw their social grant. We are in the process of extending the drive to run during all school holidays.”

Zitha said they want to continue serving the community, as local residents have showed their support to the mall since its establishment.
