The Swikoxeni initiative directly benefited Babati Primary School, one of the cleanest schools in the community.

In terms of school cleanliness programmes and conservation activities, Babati Primary School, located just outside the Kruger National Park (KNP) in Justicia Trust, benefited immensely.

During a visit to the school, the director of the Swikoxeni Waste Management Project, Bethuel Mashele, said, “Through a number of efforts, including clean-up programmes that directly include local schools and involve co-ordination with the Department of Education, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and other stakeholders, the project encourages recycling and environmental preservation. The Swikoxeni initiative directly benefits Babati Primary School, one of the cleanest schools in the community. We frequently go to this school to share our knowledge of cleanliness with the learners, and I must say that we are extremely happy of how well-kept the school and surrounding area is.”

Captain Mkhonto, a teacher at Babati Primary School, expressed his satisfaction with the work being done by KNP, Swikoxeni and the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, “The fact that the school is immaculate has really benefited us. Even though we are a rural school, the behaviour of our kids belies our location. The school is spotless, and all of our learners are aware that littering is strictly prohibited on this premises thanks to the programme that constantly teaches them about hygiene and conservation.”
