Msogwaba participates in football and netball tournaments on Youth Day

The day's events aimed to keep young people busy and active, and enhance their soccer and netball skills.

Young people from eight wards in the Zone B area in Msogwaba, Pienaar, battled it out during the soccer and netball tournaments as part of the Youth Day activities organised by the ANC on Thursday June 16.

Five games of township-style soccer were played at the Msogwaba Sports Ground, including a team of young taxi operators who went head to head with the Takheni Rehab Centre team of young substance abuse rehabilitants.

Some young girls took part in a netball mini tournament, which saw four games being played at the Msogwaba Primary School netball courts.
An interesting match between wards 4 and 40 took place, with Ward 4 winning 40-26.

The Ward 4 ANC chairperson, Slungu Thobela, said the aim of the activities was to get the young people off the streets and away from drinking sprees, crime, drugs and substance abuse.

“More and more young boys and girls are losing the significance of this day by throwing parties and taking part in substance abuse activities. On such days, we need to unite and encourage the youth to make them see that their future lies in their hands. Our future should not be destroyed over alcohol and small moments of fun,” said Thobela.
