Over 600 choristers to fly the Mpumalanga flag high at eisteddfod

Each year, the eisteddfod draws in thousands of learners from across the country, mostly from rural areas, to compete and stand a chance to win prizes designed to improve their schools and the community at large.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education will be represented by 685 choristers at the ABC Motsepe South African School Choral Eisteddford hosted by the Department of Basic Education from Tuesday June 28 to Friday July 1 at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg.

The choristers will be showcasing what has since 2016 continued to be one of the department’s most significant cultural events on the annual school calendar. Celebrating its 20th edition this year, the eisteddfod remains one of the most crucial school enrichment programmes that promote unity in diversity, national reconciliation, a new South African national identity, social transformation and social cohesion among learners.

Learners will compete under various categories that include solo soprano, mezzosoprano, solo tenor, solo bass, duet and small ensemble.

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, has extended his best wishes to all schools and conductors and is hopeful they will represent the Place of the Rising Sun well.
