A group of 10 persons robbed the Engen garage in KaNyamazane Ext 1

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes.

The Engen garage in KaNyamazane Ext 1 was robbed of money and cigarettes on Wednesday June 22 at around 01:30. The group of robbers appeared out of nowhere. The perpetrators used explosives to open the safe and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

According to reports, the group of armed men gained entry by smashing the glass door of the Quick Shop and later proceeded to the motor spares section where they also smashed the door to gain entry.

A police provincial spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said, “The group held the petrol attendants who were in the guardroom at gunpoint, and forced them into the bathroom inside the room. Several of the suspects broke the glass door of the Quick Shop, held the cashiers at gunpoint and forced them onto to the floor.

“They demanded money, cigarettes, the safe’s keys and motor spares. They proceeded to plant the explosives and blast the safe at the shop, and took money and cigarettes. Afterwards they took one of the cashiers to motor spares where they also smashed the door to gain entry. An investigation is under way to determine whether anything was stolen there,” said Mohlala.

He added that no injuries were sustained by the garage employees.
“Several shots were fired, also at a motorist who came to the garage while the robbery was in progress. When the suspects left the scene no one was injured and no arrest made as yet, pending further investigations.”
