Judgement date set for murder accused

Having appeared in court multiple times since he was charged, the accused was granted bail of R10 000 at the Mpumalanga High Court in 2020.

The murder accused ex-cop, Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda, appeared in the Mpumalanga High Court on Monday May 30.

Mabunda is facing charges of murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife, Tebogo Mabunda, outside their house in Stonehenge in May 2020.

He is alleged to have drawn a gun on his spouse and shooting her before inflicting gunshot wounds to himself.

Mabunda has since appeared in court numerous times and was granted R10 000 bail in the Mpumalanga High Court.

The case was expected to come forth for judgement.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Monica Nyuswa, said the matter was postponed to August 12.

“Judge Cassim Moosa was not available. The case is postponed and expected to come forth for judgement.”
As with his previous court appearances, family, friends, the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union and Bella’s Athletics Club picketed outside the courtroom in support of the victim.

The victim’s sister, Kgopotso Matuwe, said, “As a family we are disappointed that the case was postponed for judgement again.

“We are worried because we had hoped that this will not happen again.

“The case has been dragging for so long; it has being years and we had hoped that judgement will be done. As a family we are hoping that he is found guilty of premeditated murder.”
