Two more suspects linked with the gruesome killing of Bontle Mashiyane appear in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court

The court appearance of the two suspects comes after their houses were burnt to ashes by an angry mob on Monday.

Tempers flared outside the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court as two more suspects charged with the kidnapping, rape and murder of little Bontle Mashiyane made a brief appearance earlier today, Tuesday May 24.

Thousands of community members from villages within the Masoyi policing area, ushered in buses, gathered outside court, baying for the blood of the two suspects.

These two suspects, who were not asked to plead, were linked to the crimes by the police following the disappearance and gruesome murder of the six-year-old Bontle.

They were read their rights and asked if they had any objections to the media being present and taking photos inside court, to which they did.

However, the court ruled that journalists be allowed inside court to record proceedings and take photos of the suspects.

The suspects were then remanded in custody until June 24 when they will appear with the three other suspects who have already made an appearance in this very court.

Bontle had been missing since April 30 and her body was found buried close to her home on Saturday May 21 following an extensive investigation by the police. She had been mutilated.

Police cited that she had also been raped, hence the rape charge on the charge sheet.

On Monday May 23, the first three arrested suspects made a brief appearance before this same court, with scores of community members led by the EFF protesting outside and opposing bail.

The suspects did not apply for bail and their case was postponed to Friday June 24 in the Masoyi Periodical Court.
