Galaxy take their fight to the wire

To survive the chop, Galaxy need to take matters into their own hands and win their last game tomorrow.

TS Galaxy squandered a perfect opportunity to stretch their points and climb further up the ladder when they were held to a goalless draw against Gallants FC.

Played on Saturday at Mbombela Stadium, Galaxy did not come to this game like a team fighting to survive relegation.

They failed to ignite and show that fighting spirit they had when they hosted Orlando Pirates on May 2, a game which saw Galaxy bagging all three points after an impressive 1-0 win over the Buccaneers.

The Saturday clash against Gallants presented Galaxy an opportunity to take the pressure off leaving it to the last game.

Had they won this encounter, Galaxy would have done themselves and their supporters a great job, because they would have surely secured themselves another season in the elite league.

A win would have taken Galaxy to position 13 with 29 points.

Galaxy, currently placed in position 14 on the table, have 27 points and are followed by Swallows FC in 15th place and Baroka FC on the bottom of the log, both sited with 25 points.

Mathematically, this means that should Galaxy lose their final match of the season which is scheduled for this Saturday against Chippa United, and both Swallows and Baroka win theirs, it is over for the Rockets.

“We have a tough game against Chippa United and we are going there for the kill. We must not rely on other teams to do the job for us. We need to go there and win this game ourselves, because Swallows could win against Kaizer Chiefs and Baroka could also win their last game. So we are going there to fight and to win,” said Galaxy coach, Sead Ramović after their clash against Gallants FC on Saturday.

He said they will work on their goal-scoring prowess as it is what is lacking in his squad.

“We need to score, which has always been the challenge and our story throughout the season,” Ramović concluded.

Baroka FC will face Maritzburg United on Saturday.
