Relegation battle heats up

After a devastating 5-3 defeat at the hands of Baroka FC during the Nedbank Cup clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, TS Galaxy will now turn their focus on the DStv Premiership campaign.

The Rockets, who are languishing on position 15 on the table with 17 points, are in desperate need of points to survive the axe.

They are followed by Baroka FC, who are sited on the bottom of the log, also with 17 points, but they have played more games than Galaxy.

To survive the chop, Galaxy will need to collect at least 17 more points from their nine remaining fixtures.

The battle for those points begins this Saturday at Mbombela Stadium, when they have a date against the stubborn SuperSport United.

After this encounter, they will take a short recess and be back at it on April 2, when they have yet another tough date against the second-on-the-table Royal AM.

As if this is not enough, Galaxy will then travel to Johannesburg where they will face Kaizer Chiefs, who will have nothing but vengeance on their minds after Tim Sukazi’s boys had booted them out of the Nedbank Cup last month. Galaxy still have to face Sekhukhune United (April 16), Maritzburg United (April 23), Orlando Pirates (May 3), Cape Town City (May 7), Gallants (May 14) and Chippa United (May 21).

Gallants, Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, Chippa United, Swallows FC and Baroka are all in danger of being relegated unless they also start collecting maximum points immediately
