Police exhume woman’s body

This community within the Pienaar policing area was left in shock following the gruesome discovery of the body of a young woman, allegedly killed and buried by her boyfriend.

MSOGWABA – This discovery occurred just a day after the deputy minister of police, Cassel Mathale, had declared genderbased violence and femicide (GBVF) as a societal problem.

Mathale came to Nkomazi to engage with the community on issues related to GBV and crime in general. “Gender-based violence is a worrisome factor that affects everybody in the country. As police, we are doing all we can to defeat this. Community members must also work with the police in order to fight this ugly demon. GBV is a societal problem that needs everyone to join hands.

“The issue of violence is not an issue that is directed to women only; there are men who become victims in other instances. It is therefore important that society must be re-educated so that they can change their attitudes towards this topic. By re-educating the society from childhood, we will greatly contribute towards their attitudes,” said Mathale.

On Friday February 18, some community members alerted Lowvelder Express about a stench emanating from a certain house.

The concerned community members had already started suspecting foul play after a certain local woman had been missing for a few days.

The paper advised the community not to do anything but alert the police, who quickly responded to the calls. When the police arrived, they investigated the scene and began digging inside the house. As suspected, the woman’s body was discovered and positively identified by her family. A provincial police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, confirmed that a suspect in connection with this incident was arrested and charged accordingly
