Woman allegedly killed by father of her child in Calcutta

The police in Mpumalanga condemn the brutal murder of a woman allegedly at the hands of the father of her child.

A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Calcutta police in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old woman. He is believed to be her child’s father. According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, the police were conducting their normal duties when a group of learners notified them of something sinister that they had discovered.

The SAPS members went to the scene next to Chayaza Secondary School where they made the gruesome discovery of a lifeless body of a woman upon their arrival. The clothes that she was wearing were covered in blood. The medical personnel also arrived and certified her dead on the scene,” he said. Mohlala said a murder case was opened accordingly as the preliminary probe suggested foul play. The police launched a manhunt for the suspect/s. The probe led members to the father of the victim’s two-year-old daughter.

“The man was arrested and during the arrest, the police found an item that is believed to belong to the victim. We also found some clothes with bloodstains at the place where they arrested the suspect. The investigators also seized an item that they are convinced might be the weapon that was used in the murder. All confiscated items will form part of the investigation,” said Mohlala The suspect is expected to appear in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Monday February 14 on a charge of murder.
