He makes bread that he sells daily, he sells vegetables that he grows in his backyard, and he has recently opened a car wash.

In a world where education is often deemed the only way to success, Bongani Mahlangu changed the narrative by starting his businesses from scratch. This young entrepreneur ventured into the business world immediately after he had finished matric in 2018.

His businesses has made it possible for him to provide for his siblings and parents. According to Mahlangu, he never planned to study at tertiary level because he believes that his calling was in the business industry. Mahlangu runs three businesses that help him touch the lives of five people by creating employment for them. He makes bread that he sells daily, he sells vegetables that he grows in his backyard, and he has recently opened a car wash.

“My plan is to be able to create employment, even without any qualification. So what I did was to work hard after matriculating, because I had to prove to myself that my dream was valid,” he said.

“My vegetable business has not been doing well under the extremely harsh weather conditions, but that did not make me give up. I understood the responsibility I carried of being the breadwinner in my family,” he explained. Mahlangu advised young people to be passionate about their dreams, to dare to follow them and explore other means of making money.
