Health MEC pays Rob Ferreira Hospital a surprise visit

 The provincial MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, conducted an unannounced visit to Rob Ferreira on Monday January 24.

According to the Department of Health, the aim of MEC Sasekani Manzini’s visit was to monitor healthcare services and to interact with patients.

The MEC was accompanied by the head of the health department, Dudu Mdluli.

The visit started at the theatre and proceeded to OPD, casualty and patient admissions.

“The MEC was pleased to see the theatre being operational and that a contractor had been deployed to go on-site to assess and overcome the challenges. Now the theatre air cons are fully functional to service the people and operations are continuing. MEC Manzini was pleased to see fewer people in the waiting areas and was grateful that the hard-working staff were prioritising the people who rely on public healthcare facilities,” read the statement.

The department said Manzini will continue to target clinics and hospitals unannounced to check on cleanliness, medication stock levels, medical equipment and the physical state of facilities to ensure that people continue to get a dignified and adequate healthcare services.

In recent weeks some Mpumalanga hospitals were in the news for all the wrong reasons. Last week the department suspended guards of a private security company who were recently captured on video physically assaulting and harassing a Shongwe Hospital patient who suffers from mental illness. The video went viral on social media.
