Roads closed in Msholozi/Phumlani Village as residents protest over eviction

Motorists are advised to use alternative roads, as the road is still closed.

Disgruntled residents of Msholozi/Phumlani Village near White River blockaded all the roads around the area using burning tyres and rocks on Thursday morning (January 20).

The community is allegedly angered by a short eviction notice served by the sheriff of the Regional Division of the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court.

The letter states the villagers are given 48 hours to vacate the area. “The first to fourth respondents are ordered to remove the structures which they erected on the property within 48 hours.”

According to the letter, the matter involves the “Trustees for the time being” of the Matsafeni Trust.

A resident of Phumlani Village who wished to remain anonymous, said, “We are not happy with the fact that we will be evicted within 48 hours. We only received the letter yesterday. We have already built about 100 houses and some even bought empty stands.

“We are aware that tomorrow they are coming for us. Today we are at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court trying to find solution to this matter.” he said.
