Police launch manhunt for suspects following business robbery at Bushbuckridge bakery

The Bushbuckridge police have launched a manhunt for suspects following an incident whereby a bakery business was robbed by a group of armed suspects on Thursday January 6 at around 23:30. They fled with cash, firearms and a company vehicle.

It is alleged that security officers had been patrolling the premises around Sunbake Bakery when about eight armed suspects stormed in and found that they had parked their bakkie at the gate.

“The suspects then held the guards at gunpoint and robbed them of their company’s firearms and further instructed them to open the gate. All security guards were reportedly locked in an office while the suspects broke into the cash office and detonated explosives to force open the safe. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and further robbed them of their company Toyota bakkie (registration no: TY 74 FS GP) and fled the scene in the direction of Hazyview,” said an SAPS spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala.

The police were informed and a case of business robbery was opened. No arrests have been made as yet.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has strongly condemned the incident and ordered for the swift arrest of the suspects as well as the recovery of the firearms.

“One loose firearm is a danger to the community. We must go all out and apprehend these suspects before they commit further crimes,” she said.

Meanwhile the police are investigating the incident and request anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to immediately contact Lt Col Elizabeth Bhiya on 072 637 7947 or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
