How to keep children entertained over the festive season

December holidays are usually the longest and parents have to come up with a lot of ideas to keep the children entertained.

While we are still in Covid-19 lockdown bubble, Lowvelder suggests that parents plan a few art projects for children to do at home.

Bored children is just children that is not entertained. And watching is television is not entertainment.

Relax a little

This might seem contrary to what we’ve just said, but this is, after all, meant to be a holiday for you, too. That means making bedtime a little later so that you can enjoy a family dinner together. Routines will fall into place naturally when school starts again.

Get plans in place

You’ll feel a lot more in control if you have an idea of how you’re going to spend your time. While going out is a no-no due to social distancing rules, you can do a bit of online research to get ideas for science experiments and craft activities you can do at home.

When the dreaded “I’m bored” makes an appearance, you have an answer. Restock the art box. Set aside some budget for a stationery spree. Think glitter pens, kokis, craft paper, sequins and crafting kits. Even children who ordinarily won’t sit still for longer than it takes to watch cartoons quickly become immersed in creative activities.

And if all fails

Take them to the store and let them choose a magazine about a subject they are interested in. This will also encourage them to read while relaxing. As most adults know, having a good book as company is the best kind of entertainment.
