Driver arrested following fatal accident

The driver of a light delivery vehicle (LDV) that was involved in a crash that claimed nine lives on Saturday December 18 has been arrested for culpable homicide, drunken driving and reckless and negligent driving.

He is expected to appear in court soon to apply for bail.

The deceased are all males and they were passengers.

According to the spokesperson for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi said It is believed that the driver of the vehicle may have lost control and the vehicle veered off the road before crashing on the side.

The investigation into the crash is already underway. Overloading is one of things that the probe will look into.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe is deeply saddened by these crashes that continue to leave many families devastated.

He is therefore once again urging motorists to be always on high alert on the road.
