Security guard hit by two bullets

A security guard was shot twice while on duty at 19:50 on Saturday November 20.

MASHISHING – The incident occurred next to Alchino Spaza Shop in the Nkandla section of Mashishing. He was wounded in his upper arm and back while he was running away from from two gunmen.

Moments before he had been sitting inside his patrol vehicle, waiting to assist the owner in closing the shop. “Two suspects approached his patrol vehicle and fired shots at him.

“The security guard told the police that he realised he had to get out of the vehicle if he wanted to survive. He climbed out while the suspects were reloading their firearms. “While he was running away, the suspects fired four more shots at him. These were the shots that wounded him.

“He managed to escape. “After it was safe, he returned to his patrol vehicle and managed to drive to a local filling station for help. He thought that would be the quickest way to receive help. “His colleagues were on duty there and they took him to Lydenburg Hospital.

“We do not know what the motive behind this shooting was and are still investigating the case,” said Capt Kaizer Moela, Lydenburg SAPS spokesperson. The security guard has since been transferred to another hospital in the province. For his safety, the police did not want to divulge the location of the hospital. Moela said the suspects remain at large and the case is under investigation. Moela appealed to the community to come forward if they have more information about this case.
