Department condemns the killing of school security guards

A 46-year-old security guard was allegedly murdered by unknown people at Allendale Secondary School on Thursday November 18.

Yet another security guard was shot and killed at school premises.

Responding to this latest incident, the Mpumalanga Department of Education’s MEC, Bonakele Majuba, said he was deeply worried and alarmed about the increased number of security guards killed while on duty at schools.

According to reports, the body was discovered by the school principal, Joel Modiba, on Thursday morning. Modiba alerted the police and paramedics, who certified the security guard dead on the scene.

“We are deeply concerned and saddened by the increased number of killings of school security guards within the province,” said Majuba.

The department has sent officials to support the school and to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as to provide the required psychosocial assistance.

Majuba condemned this incident with strong contempt. He visited the school on Monday. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family
