A grade 12 learner's dream of finishing her matric and pursuing tertiary education may have been halted after she was allegedly assaulted by her former boyfriend.

A grade 12 learner’s dream of finishing her matric and pursuing tertiary education may have been halted after she was allegedly assaulted by her former boyfriend.

Nomfundo Mahlangu sustained head injuries after having allegedly been struck with a panga by her ex-boyfriend.

The Sidlamafa Secondary School learner, Nomfundo Mahlangu, is said to have suffered from inner ear and head injuries after the alleged assault.

According to information received, Nomfundo was on her way back from evening classes to prepare for her matric exams, when her ex-boyfriend allegedly attacked her using a panga.

She was rescued by some community members who had heard the commotion in her house.

She was found lying unconscious in pool of blood. Nomfundo had been in the Rob Ferreira Hospital’s ICU ward for 48 hours and is still recovering.

Nomfundo said she was still in much pain.

“Words cannot describe how I feel. I am still waiting for the police to come and take my statement. I only want justice to be served, because I have sustained serious injuries and internal bleeding, which resulted in causing more damage to my ears. I can’t hear properly now.

“My hand is also broken. I am still waiting for the doctors to have it examined.

“I only managed to write the English paper since the exams had started. I have made peace with my having to rewrite my matric again next year,” she said. No arrest has been made as yet.
