Nelly was found strangled with headscarves (doeks) around her neck at home.

An 80-year-old woman, Nelly Shongwe, was strangled to death at her second house in Schoemansdal on October 12 following a call from her son, Thulani Shongwe.

According to the deceased’s relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of her life, it is alleged that Nelly had been killed by Jabulani Linda Mthethwa whom Thulani had allegedly hired to kill his mother, allegedly in exchange for R10 000.

“Nelly received a call in the morning from Thulani. She dropped everything and rushed to help her son. Later on, we received a call that Nelly was lost and could not be found. We became even more confused when Thulani came home claiming he had not seen his mom,” she said.
