Police come to the aid of family

The Mashale family in Mphenyatsatsi were blessed with an early Christmas gift of clothes donated by the members of the community outreach police.

This family consists of 10 members, including grandchildren, all living in a dilapidated two-roomed shack.

They all depend on the child grants received for the grandchildren.

They were identified by Sgt Merilyne Mmonwa, a SAPS communication officer and social crime coordinator, as she was doing her community work. She was attending to a complaint and was touched by the family’s situation.

“I have identified the family through the two children who came to the police station crying, complaining about a lack of food and being hungry,” she explained.

During the handover, the police urged the mother to look after her children and to make sure they all attend school and pursue their education.

The officers pleaded with the community and other relevant stakeholders to continue assisting the family by donating clothes, food or anything they might need. Those that would like to assist and support may contact Joyce Lukhele on 076 103 5661.
