For the second time in five years, fire has destroyed the Mkhondos’ home.

The family of Manoke (Sekgame) were left homeless when their shack was destroyed by fire on Sunday night. In 2017, the family watched in disbelief as their first shack burned down.

Smoke awakened Tshepo Mkhondo and her three children. They managed to escape through the window without injuries. The family now depends on their relatives for food and a place to sleep.Their important documents such as ID books and birth certificates were burned to ashes.

“The children’s school uniforms and books also burned inside the shack. “We are pleading for donations from Good Samaritans. My husband and I are unemployed. We previously applied for a RDP house, but we were ignored. We don’t have food, clothes and shelter. We pray for help from locals,” Tshepo cried.

The family told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they were given blankets and sponges by the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM).

“To bring some balance in our lives, we will appreciate anything donated to us. We are currently in need.” Locals who wish to assist the family may contact Tshegofatjo Mkhondo on 066 037 8766.
