Former MEC Mandla Msibi and two co-accused granted bail

Msibi is alleged to have been involved in a shooting in which two people were fatally shot and a third person wounded on Sunday August 22 in Mbombela.

The former MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs, Mandla Msibi, and his two co-accused have been granted bail of R20 000 each in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.

Msibi is alleged to have been involved in a shooting in which two people were fatally shot and a third person wounded on Sunday August 22 in Mbombela.

Five people have been arrested in connection with this case. The co-accused are Joseph Charlie Ngwenya, Tshepo Matsane, Anele Mnisi and Njabulo Mkhondo. Ngwenya and Matsane have appeared in court at least twice with regard to this case and were granted bail of R20 000 each on Friday October 8.

Mnisi, Mkhondo amd Msibi were remanded in custody on October 11. Magistrate Susan Monaledi said all three accused were granted bail, however, under very strict conditions.

“The accused must hand over their passports today (Tuesday October 19) before 16:30. They must not interfere with the investigations and they are expected to report to the Pienaar Police Station on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

They must not to interfere with state witnesses and must not leave Mpumalanga without informing the investigation officer.”

The case has been postponed to December 6.
