Film and casting academy opens in Hazyview

Mpumalanga’s aspiring actors and actresses will no longer have to travel to Joziwood and the Mother City to learn all about the world of lights, camera and action.

This is all thanks to the new film and casting school established by the Eiden Abande Media House.

Strategically situated within the City of Mbombela in Hazyview, this first-of-its-kind creative academy offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring actors to make it into the world of glitz and glamour.

Founded by Sandra Malumane, a passionate acting, photo and videography instructor, this academy has in a short space of time produced serious talent ready to take the industry by storm.

“There are a number of South African TV channels that are currently airing and telling local stories using locally brewed actors and actresses. But sadly, on many of the shows, there aren’t any actors from this province, which is a worrying factor, because we have talent here. This fact resulted in the birth of this casting academy, at which we teach aspiring actors all the ropes to compete nationally and even internationally,” said Malumane.

Even though this academy is not of the highest standards due to a lack of funding, Malumane insisted that they offer high-quality training.

“My dream is to establish a huge and proper Mpumalanga television and film academy that would accommodate over 100 students at once. And I am hoping that our government and even the private sector can come into this space and help fund such an initiative,” she said.

Her academy is currently home to 21 students who are being trained in theatre, film acting and scriptwriting.

To showcase their talent, these actors will host a theatre musical show like no other, scheduled for Saturday October 9 at the Mbombela Civic Theatre.
