Fans creating a sporting chance for return to stadiums

The deputy president, David Mabuza, has once again assured that the nation would return to play only if people get vaccinated and do so now.

Mabuza was speaking during the vaccination drive at Mbombela Stadium on Friday which was attended mostly by those within the sporting and arts and cultural fraternity.

“It is a very important step that you have taken today to get all South Africans to face in one direction. We are here to say that returning to play is possible, and it is in your hands. It is in our hands to get back to our stadiums. This clearly states that by taking the vaccines we will be able to return to our stadiums and play one day,” said Mabuza.

This was a continuation of the work that he had already started and launched a week ago at FNB Stadium in Gauteng. Mabuza said his campaign is aimed at encouraging sporting fans, musicians and actors to all go out in their numbers to get vaccinated so that they could go back to what they do best – entertaining.

“By taking vaccines we would definitely be able to return to Mbombela Stadium, return to our theatres, and our festivals. We would be able to attend Innibos and the Mpumalanga Show. These are very exciting events in this province. And you will agree with me that these events contribute to nation building,” he said.

Mabuza said the sooner people got vaccinated the sooner the economy would open.

“Going in numbers to get vaccinated means the economy will be up and running sooner for the creation of much-needed jobs that we have lost due to this pandemic. The value chains in the sporting and cultural fraternity have been disrupted and some businesses have closed down and incurred job losses. We want to restore the health of our economy. We need to rebuild, but the first step is taking the vaccination. There is nothing wrong with the vaccine, it saves lives,” he assured
