Phaphama Primary School learners to receive shoes

The MEC for Education, Bonakele Majuba will on Thursday, September 16 visits Phaphama Primary School in Mkhuhlu in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality to hand over 420 pairs of new shoes to learners.

These new shoes were donated by Liberty following a request from Brig Leonard Hlathi, a former learner of the school.

MEC Majuba will also use the visit to monitor compliance to Covid-19 Health and Safety protocols and to urge communities to support schools.

“This donation is testament to the fact that education is a societal business and we are really grateful to Liberty for the philanthropic act of giving shoes to the school learners.

“Shoes play an important role in protecting learners from harsh elements and we are happy that their confidence and dignity will be restored so that they may focus on their studies. We are also indebted to Brigadier Hlathi for initiating and requesting Liberty to plough back to his former school. We wish that such initiatives by former learners and private-public partnerships could be duplicated all over Mpumalanga to benefit our school communities,” said MEC Majuba.
