Peace returns to ANC ward meetings
The Mpumalanga ANC hosted meetings over the past weekend at which communities and wards were afforded the opportunity to elect their preferred ward candidates.
This comes even as the country and political organisations await the ConCourt’s wisdom on whether the local government elections will go ahead in October as announced earlier or be postponed to February.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the 2021 local government elections would be held on October 27, but some political parties, such as the EFF, objected to this, saying that it would be suicidal because of Covid-19.
The Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) also advised that it would be a fatal move to have the elections in October, and that they would not be free and fair due to Covid-19.

The IEC has since filed an urgent application to the ConCourt to have these elections postponed and this matter will be heard on August 20.
