G4S van bombed and guard shot in cash-in-transit heist

The guard is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.

Armed assailants bombed a G4S cash vehicle after shooting and injuring the driver on the road between KaNyamazane and KaBokweni on Tuesday, August 3.

The Mpumalanga Hawks’ spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said three armed men forced the G4S vehicle to a standstill and shot the front right and rear tyres. Sekgotodi said the driver and two crew members were forced out of the cash-in-transit van which was then bombed.

“An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the driver of the van was shot at. “He was taken to hospital.”

She said two firearms had been taken by the robbers in the heist.

The KaBokweni Vispol and detectives as well as the Hawks, the Bomb Disposal Unit, the Local Crime Record Centre and the Flying Squad were on the scene.

According to Emer-G-Med, the injured G4S driver is 49 and sustained moderate injuries with a gunshot wound to the arm. The security officer was treated and stabilised on the scene by Emer-G-Med paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
