Police track down suspects wanted for murder

The Mpumalanga police are looking for suspects who allegedly shot dead a 27-year-old Uber driver at Vlaklaagte on Friday, July 23.

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi, two security guards on duty at the Vlaklaagte Clinic responded to a white sedan hooting at the gate, which two occupants requested emergency assistance.

“They alerted the security guards to the patient who needed assistance, as they had found him lying in the street with gunshot wounds. The security guards opened the gate and one of them rushed inside the clinic to seek help from the nurses. While he was inside, they (the suspects) dropped the patient on the ground and fled the scene,” said Hlathi.

The victim, who was identified as Vincent Nomokonde, was certified dead at the clinic’s gate.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle used by the suspects belonged to the deceased who was also working part-time as an Uber driver, and it was later found in the bush, abandoned. It seems as if the suspects tried to burn the car but could not succeed. The motive behind the murder is unknown at this stage. We would like to appeal and request to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, to contact the investigating officer, Capt Thamsanqa Shabalala on 082 923 0081, or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111,” said Hlathi.
