Tekwane South RDP houses finally handed over to beneficiaries
Some people also started to invade these houses last weekend after the department had suspended the handing over due to Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
Beneficiaries of RDP houses in Tekwane South finally received theirs today.
This morning, the MEC for human settlements, Speedy Mashilo, and the executive mayor of the City of Mbombela, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, handed over 200 RDP houses to beneficiaries in Tekwane South.
A post on the department’s Facebook page said the handover was to ensure that houses were given to rightful beneficiaries, and to quell and evict those who had illegally occupied them.

Prince Nkosi, one of the beneficiaries, said they were only informed yesterday about this sudden handover of the houses, after months of waiting.
On July 12, Freddy Ngobe, the spokesperson for the department, said, “The 200 government-subsidised houses are ready for handover, however, the possibility of an event has been suspended owing to the Covid-19 announcement by the president to place the country under alert level 4. Any developments will be communicated,” he said.
