Local trucks could not proceed with their journey due fear of #freezumaprotests

Most parts of the Lowveld was quiet on Monday.

A fleet of trucks from various transport companies in Mpumalanga spent the night parked near a garage in Belfast for safety reasons amid the ongoing #freezumaprotest.

“We have been here since yesterday. Our employers directed us not to proceed with our journey to deliver various goods to areas around Johannesburg and Pretoria due to the ongoing protest,” said Nelson Nkosi, a truck driver on Monday morning.

On normal days Nkosi who left his workplace in Mbombela on Sunday evening would reach Johannesburg on Monday after spending the night at a truck stop station in Middelburg.

“This has already affected our schedule for the week. We don’t know when we will be free to proceed to deliver that side,” he added.
