Anarchy as violent protest continue eSwatini

Properties, shops, trucks, vehicles and many more had been engulfed by fire in various parts of the country since the start of the pro-democracy protests.

The situation is getting ugly in the Kingdom of eSwatini as the country’s pro-democracy protests manifest into chaos. The protests entered their third day today.

Mpumalanga News learnt that soldiers and the police in the country indiscriminately fired shots at anyone on the streets.

An undisclosed number of people had been injured  in the process. Last night there was no communication as networks were totally shut down. A emotional post about the plight of junior law enforcers in the country was also shared on social media. “No one bothers or thinks about us as junior members of the police force and correctional services. We are just assigned to an operation on the ground no matter how tense the situation is,” reads the post.

The Economic Freedom Fighters has voiced its solidarity with the people of eSwatini. “We are not going in. We are picketing outside, paying solidarity to the people of eSwatini,” said Collen Sedibe, the leader of the EFF in Mpumalanga.

“The protests we are seeing of late have been hijacked by criminal elements. Such cannot be acceptable under any circumstances. No one can hide behind a glass wall of grievances to administer harm to others and cause unrest and anarchy. The law will be upheld against all those who perpetuate anarchy and threaten the lives and livelihoods of emaSwati. Our security forces are on the ground to maintain law and order,” said acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku.
