Russell’s Pharmacy shows why it is the local choice

Russell’s Pharmacy, located at the Promenade Shopping Centre in Mbombela, has recently become a The Local Choice franchise, and according to Sabelo Zulu, one of the directors of the pharmacy, he and his partner, Piet Meyer, will now be able to offer lower prices to their customers while still remaining the much-loved Russell's Pharmacy.

Russell’s The Chemists/Russell’s Pharmacy is one of the oldest in the city to take care of the health needs of our community for the past 75 years. It was in 1930 when a young chemist from Germiston came to the Lowveld to take over the reins of B Owen Jones Chemist.

He later changed the name. That same year the young town of Nelspruit was granted town council status. It was also the beginning of the local tourism industry with the first train of visitors entering the Kruger National Park. The area around Nelspruit was still fairly wild back then.

One day a delivery man on his bicycle could not reach a farmstead with a medicine order due to some lion along the way. Over the years the business has moved – five times since old man Russell first established Russell’s The Chemists/ Russell’s Pharmacy.

For many years Russell’s was the 24-hour prescription medicine depot in the Lowveld. Meyer and Zulu, the current partners, are both experienced pharmacists. What makes Russell’s unique today is that the pharmacy has maintained long-lasting relationships with patients and it is still a beacon of exceptional customer service.

Meyer, popularly known as “Piet Pille”, and Zulu, popularly known as “Zulu”, with their team make healthcare at Russell’s a great experience. “Our location at the Promenade Shopping Centre says all about who we are. We are closer to the people who need us most, in the heart of the CBD,” Zulu said.
